On July 22, 2021, Governor Murphy signed into law the mandatory lead service line replacement bill (NJ Bill A5343/S3398,” P.L.2021, Ch. 183). The New Jersey Lead Service Line Replacement Program is a specific initiative in New Jersey aimed at replacing lead service lines to ensure safe drinking water for residents. The Borough of Chatham has established regulations for the mandatory replacement of lead and galvanized service lines. If the owner of a dwelling, building, or structure does not register for the Lead Service Line Replacement Program or does not replace a lead service line within 180 days of the effective date of this Ordinance, then the Borough shall have the authority to enter any property within the Borough to perform a lead service line replacement.
